The Marmomacc project made by Campolonghi is a "luminous" table for outdoors use.
Thinking “light” seems quite difficult using marble. A possibility was to work on two aspects: the physical and the visual weights of the object.
For the first one the challenge was especially difficult given the properties of material -its specific hight weight- so a design opportunity was to reduce as much as possible the amount of material used.
For this reason the structure of the table is made of a number of superposed rings, starting from a base diameter their thickness and diameter decrease as much as possible to support the stress of the bending moments generated by to the top surface, which was also reduced to the maximum.
To express the idea of visual lightness rings have slots, through which the light emitted from a light source placed inside the cavity of the structure comes out.
